Partnership
agreements are a key part of NicOx’ business strategy, allowing the
Company to focus on its lead products, while maximizing the value of
its portfolio of development compounds in non-core therapeutic areas.
NicOx’ partners are chosen based on their expertise and commitment to
research and development in areas that are outside of NicOx’ core focus
on inflammation and cardiovascular diseases.
These co-development agreements provide NicOx with a broad and
differentiated pipeline. Current collaborations are focused on
respiratory disorders and liver disease.

In June 2001, NicOx signed a research and co-development agreement on a
novel class of nitric oxide-donating respiratory therapeutics with
Biolipox, a Swedish company. In November 2007, Orexo AB another Swedish
specialty pharmaceutical company acquired Biolipox AB. Through this
collaboration NicOx benefits from Orexo’s expertise in identifying and
developing compounds for the treatment of airway diseases. The lead
product from this collaboration, NCX 1510, is in clinical development
for allergic rhinitis and has already completed two phase 1/2a studies,
where it has demonstrated a significant reduction in nasal symptoms,
combined with a rapid onset of action.
Under the terms of the agreement NicOx will receive a proportional
share of all future revenues which result from the collaboration.

In
October 2005 NicOx signed a license and development agreement with
TOPIGEN Pharmaceuticals Inc., a Canadian company, for the development
of TPI 1020 (formerly NCX 1020) in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary
Disease (COPD) and other respiratory disorders. Through this
collaboration, NicOx benefits from TOPIGEN's strong research and
development expertise in the respiratory area. TPI 1020 is a novel
respiratory anti-inflammatory, which has completed phase 2 and phase 1
studies with promising results. In November 2007 TOPIGEN initiated a
phase 2 trial for TPI 1020 in COPD patients
Under the terms of the agreement, TOPIGEN has rights to TPI 1020 in
North America and the option to obtain rest-of-world rights from NicOx
at a later date. TOPIGEN will manage and fund all further development
activities, through to product registration, under the supervision of a
joint management committee. NicOx stands to receive milestone payments,
commercial success fees and a share in future revenues from TOPIGEN.
